WEATHER IN BANFF-WHAT SHOULD YOU PACK?
At an altitude of 1,476 meters (4,500 ft), Banff is subject
to sudden, dramatic swings in climate. The current forecast
calls for temperatures ranging from 24° F (-4° C)
to 51° F (11° C)! We recommend that you pack for all
possibilities, from bright, sunny days to chilly evenings.
Be sure to bring a warm jacket or coat, clothes that you can
layer, comfortable shoes, sun-screen and a hat. Note also
that the technical sessions will be held in different buildings
on the Banff Centre campus, so you will be walking outside
often. Click
here tor the latest weather forecast. In general, dress
for the conference is casual.
GETTING FROM CALGARY AIRPORT TO BANFF
Banff is approximately 1 ½ hours by ground transportation
from the Calgary airport. If you are renting a car, you should
make reservations before arriving in Calgary.
If you are using the Banff Airporter shuttle, you MUST make
reservations before arrival. Click here
to go to the Banff Airporter web page. Be sure to include
the user name and password to receive the CORS-INFORMS discount.
Upon arrival in Calgary, just follow signs to ground transportation
and check in at the Banff Airporter desk. The Banff Airporter
has arranged a complimentary reception area on Saturday, May
15, where you can relax and enjoy a cup of coffee and doughnut.
On departure, if you schedule an early morning flight out
of Calgary (anytime before 9:00am), you must take the Banff
Airporter to a Calgary airport hotel the night BEFORE your
flight. Banff Airporter's first morning pick-up at the Banff
Centre is 5:00am and arrives at the Calgary airport at 7:00am.
It's important to be at the airport two hours before your
flight, especially with the customs process.
The Delta
Calgary Airport Hotel is connected to the airport by covered
skywalk. This is the most convenient hotel to stay in. However,
there are many airport hotels with a complimentary airport
shuttle. Visit
www.expedia.com for Calgary hotel options.
TRAVEL INTO CANADA
Proof of citizenship is required when entering Canada. For
U.S. citizens, documents such as a passport or original birth
certificate plus photo I.D. are acceptable. Delegates from
other countries will probably require a passport and, in certain
cases, a visa. To determine which documents you require, contact
the Canadian Embassy or Consulate in your country. Additional
information can be found at: www.traveldocs.com/ca/er.htm
SHUTTLE BUS FROM OVERFLOW HOTELS
If you are not staying at the Banff Centre, you may want to
use the CORS-INFORMS shuttle service that will operate between
the Centre and overflow hotels in downtown Banff.
Downtown shuttle stop locations are the 11 hotels that were
reserved through Banff Accommodations, the conference housing
bureau.
PARKING
If you are not staying at the Banff Centre, you may park in
two locations on the Centre campus: the lot beside Becker
Hall or the overflow lot at the main entrance. DO NOT park
in the short-term lots, as tickets are issued promptly after
two hours.
WALKING: BANFF CENTER TO DOWNTOWN
The Banff Centre is located on St. Julien Rd. on the east
side of Banff, four bocks from Banff Avenue. There are three
ways to walk from the Centre to downtown Banff: St. Julien
Rd., Buffalo Street, and the Ken Madsen Path. It is a 10-15
minute walk downhill to town. Plan on a bit longer for the
return trip, since it's uphill!
MEALS
If you are staying at the Banff Centre, breakfast and lunch
are included in the room reservation for the conference delegate
(meal tickets must be purchased for a spouse or companion
staying with the delegate). For those staying at other hotels,
you will be able to purchase lunch tickets on Sunday at a
special desk in the conference registration area. Lunch tickets
for Sunday through Wednesday must be purchased on Sunday.
There are also two small cafes on the Centre campus where
you can purchase lunch and snacks.
REGISTRATION HOURS - MAX BELL BUILDING
Go to the Max Building at the Banff Centre to pick up your
printed program and other registration materials. Registration
is open: Saturday, May 15, 4:00-7:00pm; Sunday, Monday and
Tuesday, 7:00am-5:00pm; Wednesday, 7:00am-11:00am. These are
also the on-site registration hours. We recommend that you
register now, and avoid the lines at on-site registration!
BADGE REQUIRED FOR TECHNICAL SESSIONS
Your Banff 2004 registration badge must be worn to all meeting
events. This year, badges will be checked at the entrance
to technical session areas, as well as the exhibit hall. Attendees
without badges will be directed to the registration desk to
pick up their badges and register. All attendees, including
speakers and session chairs, must register and pay the registration
fee.
ROOM LOCATIONS OF TECHNICAL SESSIONS
The printed program you receive at conference registration
will list room locations for all sessions and events, as well
as provide maps and floor plans.
