WORKSHOPS - 12:00pm - 3:00pm

FRONTLINE SYSTEMS, INC.
Optimal Decisions for Uncertain Models:
Robust Optimization, Stochastic Programming and Simulation Optimization Made Easy

Attend this workshop to learn about a genuine breakthrough: software tools that make it easy to allocate scarce resources in the presence of uncertainty–the sine qua non of business decisions. Powerful but disparate technologies such as robust optimization, stochastic programming and simulation optimization–that formerly required expert consulting to use–are now available in one unified, easy to use framework in Microsoft Excel, with the just-released Premium Solver Platform V8.0. Learn how Monte Carlo simulation supports stochastic programming and robust optimization, in our integrated framework, to optimize models far beyond the reach of simulation optimization. You’ll come away with a real understanding of which technology to use for a given problem–plus powerful tools to actually solve that problem.

GAMS DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION
Application Prototyping with GAMS
(Bring your laptop.)
This workshop will show you how to use the GAMS modeling and rapid prototyping tools in an efficient and productive way. There will be an introduction to the system and a presentation of the key concepts in GAMS. The largest part of the workshop consists of hands-on exercises building GAMS models and applications. Guided by our experts, Michael Bussieck and Steven Dirkse, sample optimization based decision support applications will be built from scratch. We will show how easily GAMS interacts with other applications (e.g. MS Office). Moreover, examples showing how to build sophisticated algorithms will be given. You will also get an introduction to analyzing and debugging large problems using the various tools available within the GAMS system. A personal copy of GAMS will be available for all workshop participants. We expect to make this a hands-on workshop so please bring your laptop.

GOLDSIM TECHNOLOGY
A Hybrid Probabilistic Simulation Environment

This workshop provides an introduction to building probabilistic simulation models using GoldSim. GoldSim is a hybrid simulator that can simultaneously represent continuous and discrete dynamics. GoldSim provides powerful probabilistic simulation capabilities to support representation of uncertain and/or stochastic systems. The workshop will discuss both basic and advanced features.

LUMINA DECISION SYSTEMS
Introduction to Analytica
(Bring your laptop.)
The workshop is an in-depth introduction to Analytica by an expert for those considering it for use or teaching. We will compare it with other modeling tools, including spreadsheets, with applications in energy, environment and project R&D management. Bring your laptop for hands-on experience with Analytica.  Bring your own problems or spreadsheets as examples. See what the excitement is about.

MAXIMAL SOFTWARE, INC.
Optimization Modeling with MPL: Integrating Optimization in Real-World Business Applications
The workshop focuses on optimization modeling and how to embed optimization models into applications. It is designed to teach the participants how to develop their own optimization models, link them to data sources and solve the models using state-of-the-art, industrial-strength solvers. The speakers will take you through all the steps of an optimization project using optimization software tools from Maximal Software, ILOG and ARKI Consulting. Participants will leave with an excellent overview of optimization modeling and a good working knowledge of how to successfully build optimization applications.

RESPONSIVE LEARNING TECHNOLOGIES
Online Games for Operations Management and Supply Chain Courses
12:00pm-1:30pm: The Supply Chain Game
1:30pm-3:00pm: Managing Operations at Littlefield Technologies
Each 45-minute session will describe a competitive, web-based assignment designed with leading scholars to excite and engage students at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Each session will begin with an overview, followed by participants playing the online game and then concluding with a debriefing. See http://pom.responsive.net/informs for more details.

VOSE CONSULTING
Frontiers of Applied Quantitative Risk Analysis
(Bring your laptop.)
The availability of Excel based Monte Carlo simulation software such as Crystal Ball and @RISK has driven growth in the adoption of quantitative risk analysis techniques. Our new software ModelRisk for Insurance and Finance greatly enhances these tools and gives users access to numerous up-to-date and advanced methods not previously available in spreadsheet models. ModelRisk includes complex functions such as copulas, advanced time-series and aggregate distributions. You can build sophisticated and easily debugged models in a fraction of the time required for custom programming. Please bring your laptop PC for this interactive session!

WORKSHOPS - 3:00pm - 6:00pm

AMPL OPTIMIZATION LLC
Software Tools and Components: Linear, Nonlinear and Stochastic Programming Using AMPL and Its Extensions
Participants will gain an understanding of how to use the AMPL modeling language and AMPL Studio user interface to formulate models and to test algorithmic approaches. The SAMPL stochastic extensions and SPInE stochastic modeling environment will be introduced to show how risk decisions and constraints can enhance model formulations. Finally, the use of COM objects to implement decision support systems will be shown.

DASH OPTIMIZATION
Fast Track Modeling and Optimization for OR practitioners
This workshop will provide participants with an insight into new modeling and optimization techniques, and their applications in the industry. Experts from Dash Optimization will present technical sessions, touching on novel ways of modeling existing business problems using linear, mixed integer, quadratic, non-linear, stochastic and constraint programming techniques. A few business applications of Xpress-MP will also be presented describing ways in which Xpress-MP has been used to optimize business processes.

ILOG, INC.
The New ILOG CPLEX 11, OPL-CPLEX Development System and Optimization Decision Manager
Learn about the new ILOG CPLEX and ILOG’s system for developing advanced decision support applications, featuring the integration of CPLEX, OPL-CPLEX Development System and Optimization Decision Manager (ODM). Attendees will learn how to make the most of CPLEX 11, improve performance on challenging large-scale mixed-integer programs and build state-of-the-art decision support applications and models. Come and see why CPLEX is better than ever!
