Women in OR/MS Events
It has been said many times already “The most favorite social event of the INFORMS Annual Conference is WORMS Networking Reception”. I am not saying this because last year I was one of the organizers and we received many complements, no, not at all, but because last year we expected 150 people showing up not at once but staggered and only 270 came (restaurant owners counted at the peak time around 200 people). This is where you meet your long lost friend (may be lost from last years INFORMS) and catch a co-worker who is otherwise avoiding you.
Unsure? Come and see for yourself on Monday, October 21, 8pm-11pm Carlile Room, 820 Pine St, Seattle (3 min walk from Convention Center) .
Let me also remind you about two exciting sessions organized by WORMS – MB74 and MC74 at Sheraton S-Capitol Hill. These session topics can easily be ice-breakers for your conversations at the WORMS Networking Reception.
MB74
Julie Maurer from Ohio State University will share her research on how the workforce structure, institutional policies and employer preferences interact to impact the career development of female scientists.
Maryam Andalib, et al will present their findings on implementing Tenure-clock Extension Policies for faculty members who are in tenure probationary periods which coincides with a special life circumstance of expecting and/or caring for a newborn child.
Liana Babayan of Augusta University will talk about subtle sexism and different types of microagressions against professional women and offer a discussion on how to engage in a productive fight for a fair workplace.
MC74
Kit Welchlin from Welchlin Communication Strategies will talk about Stress, Time & Procrastination. He will share her techniques to relieve stress, teach time management and steps to stop procrastination.
