Overview<\/h3>\n

This workshop, designed for newcomers to Monte Carlo and discrete-event simulation, will be held on Monday, December 14 from 2PM to 6 PM.\u00a0 Participants will run and modify existing simulation programs downloaded prior to the workshop.\u00a0 An R package named simEd will be used in the workshop. \u00a0<\/p>\n

Who Should Attend?<\/h3>\n

The target audience for the workshop consists of managers, computer scientists, and engineers with little or no familiarity with probability, statistics, and simulation.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Why Should You Attend?<\/h3>\n

Attending the workshop will help newcomers to simulation assimilate the technical sessions presented at the Winter Simulation Conference. Due to the limited time for the workshop, it will be very light on theory and general notions, but heavy on intuition associated with simulation.\u00a0 This will be accomplished by running through the conceptual, algorithmic, and implementation portions of the development of several simple Monte Carlo and discrete-event simulation models.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Barry Lawson<\/a>, Professor of Computer Science, University of Richmond
Barry Lawson is a faculty member in the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science at the University of Richmond. His research interests are in agent-based simulation and computer science education.<\/p>\n

Larry Leemis<\/a>, Professor of Mathematics, College of William & Mary
Larry Leemis is a faculty member in the Department of Mathematics at William & Mary. His research interests are in computational probability, reliability, and discrete-event simulation.<\/p>\n\n
