Building Ethical AI/ML Decision Making Systems for Justice Reform

Redo.io (www.redoio.info) is a data science for justice reform organization. We build open databases and data analytics tools to help district attorneys, public defenders, policymakers, and academic researchers study prison populations in depth. Our eligibility models identify incarcerated individuals who are serving excessive sentences for non-serious offenses and might be eligible for second-look case reviews. In this talk, I will demonstrate how we leverage ML/AI to support high-risk and high-stakes decisions related to resentencing. We are supported by LexLab at UC Law SF, Three Strikes Project at Stanford Law, Justice Technology Association, and Dream.Org.
