Access Optimization for Specialty Pediatric Care Centers

Access to specialty pediatric care is often hindered by lengthy wait times and resource limitations, especially in rural areas. At the Geisinger Autism & Developmental Medicine Institute (ADMI), the average wait time for a diagnostic evaluation has been significantly reduced from over 18 months to 6-9 months through multidisciplinary approaches and telemedicine. Similarly, the Geisinger multidisciplinary Cleft Clinic addresses complex pediatric care needs, with research highlighting delays in follow-up care due to systemic barriers. Both centers leverage data-driven methods, including process mapping and visualization tools, to optimize access and enhance patient outcomes. These initiatives aim to reduce disparities, streamline scheduling, and improve care delivery by analyzing electronic health records and care scenarios. This collaborative model demonstrates a scalable framework for addressing access issues across specialty pediatric care domains.
