Trusted Numbers, Trustworthy Code: Software Engineering Fundamentals for Analytics Professionals

Analytics teams often operate in isolation: code on one person’s laptop, analyses rebuilt from scratch each quarter, and late-night fixes before executive presentations. This talk presents a practical roadmap for adopting proven software engineering habits that fit real-world analytics work.

Drawing on case studies from academic labs, consulting firms, and industry teams, we’ll explore three high-impact practices: using Git and GitHub for true collaboration, writing readable, modular code that teams can maintain, and adding simple tests that catch the errors that matter most.

The result? Analyses become trustworthy, reusable assets. Teams spend less time fighting code and more time answering business questions. Analytics work stands up to scrutiny from stakeholders and decision makers.

Designed for practitioners of all backgrounds—whether your training is in operations research, statistics, business, or another field, this session shows what to do on Monday morning to make analytics more reliable and impactful.
