Formula 1 Lap Speed Forecasting

The Formula 1 Lap Speed Forecasting project capitalizes on an array of real-time racing data to project race outcomes well ahead of the final laps. Leveraging the Python-based FastF1 library, this approach begins with a vector autoregression mode, ensuring stationarity through a first-difference transformation. While this baseline method clarifies the underlying patterns, its significant error margin highlights the complexities of real-world sports analytics. To improve accuracy, a refined two-stage LSTM model segments the problem into forecasting average lap speed and then focusing on specific driver characteristics such as tire age, track conditions, and individual skill levels. This systematic approach truly yields a remarkable reduction in error, dropping from an initial average of 30% to less than 1%. By seamlessly integrating advanced modeling techniques with comprehensive racing insights, Formula 1 Lap Speed Forecasting offers a forward-looking framework for precision performance analysis of real world sports data.
