The purpose of the Robert G. Sargent Simulation Scholarship is to provide one scholarship annually to a Ph.D. student working on their doctoral dissertation in simulation. The scholarship recipient must be enrolled in a Ph.D. program at a university in the United States, must expect to complete their Ph.D. degree requirements between six and eighteen months from the application due date (May 1, 2025), and must be a member of the INFORMS Simulation Society. Applications will be evaluated based on the degree to which the applicant has demonstrated academic preparation for success in dissertation research via graduate level coursework, previous studies, projects, research experience and support letters, and the degree to which the applicant’s program of dissertation research makes a significant contribution to the field of simulation.

Each application should contain the following:

  1. A curriculum vitae that details the applicant’s complete educational history, including specifics regarding dates of enrollment in graduate studies and graduate courses. Also to be included is the applicant’s expected completion date of their Ph.D. requirements.
  2. A 3- to 4-page document from the applicant that contains (a) their proposed dissertation research, (b) why they are interested in this dissertation research problem, (c) why this problem is important, (d) what the expected results are and any results that have been achieved so far, and (e) what value the expected results are expected to have to the field of simulation.
  3. Two letters of support, one of which should be from their dissertation advisor, to be submitted to the selection committee by the authors of the support letters. Letters should be no longer than two pages.

Items 1 and 2 should be sent via email to [email protected] as a single PDF file by no later than May 1, 2025. The two letters in item 3 should be sent via email separately by the authors as PDF files to [email protected] by no later than May 1, 2025. Incomplete applications will not be considered.
