WSC Diversity and Inclusion (D&I) Initiative
The WSC D&I initiative aims to broaden participation in the WSC by supporting researchers and students from geographically and economically underrepresented regions of the global modelling and simulation community. The initiative also seeks to promote greater gender inclusion within this regional focus.
Participation will be supported through travel grants and registration support, a structured mentoring program and online tutorials. Travel grants will support eligible students, postdoctoral researchers and early-career academics from low-income countries, while mentoring will connect emerging researchers with experienced members of the WSC community. The tutorials will provide practical guidance on the WSC submission process, paper preparation and presentation at international M&S conferences.
Who can participate? Eligibility for travel grants will be based on the applicant’s country of affiliation, academic merit, the quality of their submitted or accepted WSC paper or Simulation Around The World (SATW) extended abstracts and demonstrated financial need. The eligible-country list will be reviewed annually to reflect changing economic circumstances. At least one travel grant each year will be reserved for a female applicant from an eligible region.
How to apply? Details of application calls, eligibility, deadlines and selection criteria for travel grants will be announced through the WSC website and our mailing lists. Online tutorials and mentoring opportunities will be open to researchers who wish to access this support, while travel grants will be awarded through a competitive application process.
A long-term commitment: The WSC D&I Initiative is supported by the WSC Foundation for a three-year period covering WSC 2026, WSC 2027 and WSC 2028. During this period, the initiative will establish and develop activities including online tutorials, travel and registration support, and structured mentoring, while building experience and evidence to inform the future development of D&I activities within WSC.
Get involved: Researchers and students from eligible regions are encouraged to participate, while members of the WSC community are invited to contribute as mentors, tutorial speakers and supporters. Please watch the WSC website for upcoming calls and opportunities to participate.
