The Power of Analytics in Sports Business
While the revolution of “Moneyball” as a competitive advantage in sports has become publicized over the past decade in popular culture, many are unaware that teams have access to troves of data about their customers and their activity that they use to make informed decisions and enhance the fan experience. Just like any mature business, teams must leverage data to gather insights and respond to behaviors in the market. This presentation will provide an overview of how descriptive and predictive analytics are used in the sports and entertainment industry, demonstrated by various case studies on applications pioneered by the Miami HEAT. Based on this success, the HEAT created 601 Analytics to provide these applications to multiple sports teams and venues around the country. This required a disciplined approach for scaling applications outside the organization.
