Bio

George Runger, PhD, is Professor in the School of Computing and Augmented Intelligence, Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering at Arizona State University. He researches machine learning and statistical methods with a focus on system analysis with high-dimensional, complex, and streaming data. His work has been sponsored by multiple federal, state, and corporate collaborators. He was an inaugural advisory board member of the INFORMS Data Science section. Previously, he was a senior engineer and technical leader for analytics projects at IBM.

AI for Operations—Without Language or Images

The recent AI leaps for language and images processing are only part of increased opportunities for AI to impact operations and supply chains. Multiple supply chain tasks from planning, operations, logistics, market analysis, service, etc., can be enhanced with AI tools applied to organizational data. An integration with language models provides further opportunities. Several examples of AI in operations are described with the objectives and models for each task presented.
