 Integrating LNG Value Chain via  Mixed-Integer Planning and Scheduling Optimization

A demand that is projected to increase in the mid-term and eventually diminish underlines new challenges in the LNG business. Brought on by the push for an energy transition and a string of global crises, these challenges call for increased integration within the business value chain and a prevention of value leakage. This paper describes an optimisation approach for planning and scheduling across the LNG value chain spanning the entire spectrum of upstream production, midstream liquefaction, and downstream distribution of a vertically integrated company. We apply advanced analytics centring around mixed-integer linear programming supported with state-of-the-art database and cloud computing technologies to realize significant value through automation and digitalization. The model formulation with underlying framework and methodology are extendable and amenable to scaling, customization, and acceleration to support the company’s business transformation effort in a robust and sustainable manner.
