Patricia Angle is an Assistant Professor of Management Information Systems at the University of Oklahoma Price College of Business. Her research centers on the

economic implications of IT use to facilitate innovation and productivity. Dr. Angle has created and taught the digital modernization and analytics courses in the

Executive MBA in Aerospace and Defense at OU, in addition to teaching an undergraduate network infrastructure and cybersecurity course. She is a 2019

graduate of the Scheller College of Business at Georgia Institute of Technology, with a concentration in Information Technology Management and a minor in economics.

She also earned master’s and bachelor’s degrees in aerospace engineering at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. Her industry experience as an aerospace engineer

includes computational fluid dynamics and testing in the aerospace, energy, and golf industries.

The Challenges of Digital Modernization in the US Defense Sector

The Department of Defense (DoD) treats information as a strategic asset. The power of this asset lies in the ability to transform information into operational intelligence. As in other economic sectors, the ability to make sense of information faster than one’s opponent represents an operational advantage. In this presentation, we will discuss some of the challenges of incorporating the power of new technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI) into a complex and dynamic operating environment. We will discuss some principles that can help the practitioner strategically integrate new technologies within the organization, using the operationally intense and high-stakes environment of the Defense sector.
