Multi-objective Multi Solve Semiconductor Manufacturing Capacity Planning in Front End Operations
The semiconductor industry is characterized by its relentless pace of innovation and rapid evolution, with new breakthroughs and advancements occurring regularly. The fast-evolving nature of the industry further complicates capacity planning, as manufacturers must anticipate and adapt to technology shifts while efficiently managing expensive production resources and capital investments. At Micron, capacity planning has become increasingly difficult and challenging due to rapid technological advancements, increasing number of parts and tool types, and demand volatility. These challenges underscore the importance of agile and data-driven capacity planning strategies that can adapt to a rapidly changing business landscape. The conventional way of using spreadsheets is versatile, however it has several disadvantages including limited problem size and being prone to human error. To address that, we have developed Fazer (Fab Analyzer) which uses Operations Research (OR) technologies to help Micron deliver consistent and optimize capacity decisions. Fazer has been adopted across all Micron fabs.
