CTL – Teaching Excellence and Networking        (CTL -TEN) Workshop

The INFORMS Committee on Teaching and Learning (CTL) is a group of educators within INFORMS made-up of teaching-track faculty, lecturers, clinical and teaching professors, doctoral students, and anyone invested in teaching well in operations research, management science, and analytics. It brings together people who care about the craft of teaching and the careers built around it, across institutions and career stages.

Every year since 2020, this group has hosted the INFORMS Committee on Teaching and Learning Workshop on Teaching Excellence and Networking (CTL-TEN), a workshop dedicated to building a community of teaching-focused educators and helping them grow as teachers and mentors. We would love anyone interested in discussing and improving their abilities as an educator to join at this year’s CTL-TEN workshop

What is CTL-TEN?

CTL-TEN is a dynamic, inclusive preconference workshop dedicated to enhancing teaching practices, supporting teaching-focused careers in operations research, management science, and analytics, and fostering meaningful mentorship and networking opportunities. Formerly known as ECTN, the workshop now reaches a broader community while preserving its successful mentorship model. CTL-TEN welcomes graduate students and teaching-focused faculty of any career stage.

Participants will engage with a diverse set of speakers from academia, industry, and government through panels, discussions, and collaborative sessions. Topics may include:

  • AI considerations when teaching in the classroom

  • University leadership as teaching faculty

  • Belongingness in the classroom

  • Experiential and project-based learning

  • Teaching-focused job market preparation

  • Educational research design

  • Virtual learning design

  • And more!

Who attends:

CTL-TEN brings together doctoral students, teaching-track faculty, lecturers, and anyone invested in teaching well across OR, management science, analytics, IE, and supply chain. There’s a role for everyone, whatever your career stage and however involved you’d like to be.

The workshop runs two parallel tracks to capture mid-career and early-career interests.

When you sign up at the link, we’ll ask if you’d like to join the mentor-mentee program, especially useful for late-stage PhD students and early-career faculty looking to grow on a teaching-focused path.
