Associate Professor of Practice at Babson College

Dan Rice is an associate professor in the Operations and Information Management division at Babson College and a Principal Scientist at BAE Systems, FAST Labs. He received an MBA and Ph.D. from the University of Connecticut School of Business. Dan’s diverse background as a commissioned Coast Guard officer, university faculty, small business innovator, and high-tech industry scientist afford him a unique multi-dimensional world perspective. Dan’s dissertation in 2004 titled “Advanced Models for the Protection of Numerical Information in Databases: Providing Security and Flexibility in Markets for Private Information”, with advisors Professors Robert Garfinkel and Ram Gopal, provides an economic and technological foundation to enable markets for private information ensuring the security and privacy of individuals’ personal information in the future.

Personal Privacy for Marketing Analytics Post Web 3.0

Personal data privacy will be paramount as we enter a new Web 3.0 era of online marketing data analytics for direct-to-consumer advertising and business. The rapidly changing online analytics landscape will present numerous challenges and opportunities including the emergence of online markets for individuals’ personal data and private information. This talk will present the upcoming changes to the handling of online personal data, the impact on current marketing analytics and advertising practices, and a path forward to providing online personal data protection leveraging future Web 3.0 technologies and the creation of business and consumer markets for the selling and buying personal data online.
