How to Bring AI in the Clinical Setting: Experiences at the Mayo Clinic

Healthcare organizations are collecting vast, heterogeneous, multimodal data about the patients they serve across electronic medical records (EMR), medical imaging systems, images, remote monitoring devices and wearables, insurance claims, and genetic repositories, to name a few. The advances in new artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) is enabling the integration of these data sources to generate novel, and potentially clinically actionable, insights. However, there is a wide gap between the promise that this technology holds and its implementation in routine clinical care settings. This talk will examine some of the real-world implementation challenges and Mayo Clinic’s approach of enabling the entirety of the AI/ML lifecycle in patient care from ideation to deployment and evaluation.
